Announcing 2024 Awardees By Chenchen Hensz • July 31, 2024 We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Massachusetts Community Health and Healthy Aging Funds (The Funds) Cohort 3 (C3) awards! In July 2024, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) approved $15.8 million to be distributed over one to five years among 26 awardees throughout the Commonwealth. The C3 awardees will utilize a policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change approach to make a tangible impact on structural racism, social determinants of health, and overall health outcomes within their communities. Leading the planning and implementation of the investment strategies is Health Resources in Action (HRiA), which serves as the fiscal agent. In January 2017, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) revised the Determination of Need (DoN) regulation, resulting in the establishment of the Funds. These Funds are sourced from hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare entities that are obligated to contribute to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Determination of Need Program. For more information about the DoN program, please click here. “The Funds offer a unique opportunity to invest in organizations and communities that are utilizing policy, systems, and environmental change approaches to address the negative impacts on health outcomes, racial equity, and the social determinants of health. By engaging and uplifting community-centered voices and working with dynamic organizations to lead these efforts, this groundbreaking investment is an innovative approach in Massachusetts. Health Resouces in Action is thrilled to be in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and communities across the Commonwealth on this important endeavor.” says Steven Ridini, the President & CEO of Health Resources in Action.
